It’s the most wonderful time of the year. That’s right baby! It’s Christmas season. Well almost. It’s time to fa la la la and deck those halls. But let’s be a tad honest decking the halls can be stressful. Between time crunches, budgeting and tiny grabby hands. (Looking and you Hud and Liam) decorating for the holidays can be less glittery. I’ve got pottery barn taste on a yard sale budget, if you get my drift! But fear not that’s why we have creativity. And I have oodles of that and an art degree technically that I paid a lot of money for it so let’s both use that for our benefits. I’m gonna tell you my top five DIY Christmas decor that are easy and look amazing. To know me is to know, I am bougie but I’m not about to pay $1 million dollars. I can’t and i shan’t.

Salt dough ornaments

Salt dough ornaments are one of the funnest Christmas crafts. Not only is it inexpensive, but it's also highly customizable. I've made strands of beads, stars to hang from garland, painted them, pressed stamps into them. Listen the sky is the limit with these. Mine have started to yellow over time, so I suggest sealing them with something along the lines of modpodge, or a shellac. If you're ok with the idea of it aging, then let it go. Quick tip as you work the dough it will dry out, just keep a little bowl of water by you. You can lightly dip your fingers in to help keep your project from cracking.

Cardboard Gingerbread Houses

Now I know you have amazon boxes or diaper boxes lazing about in a corner. Don't play! Go ahead and get them out so you can put them to work. Last year I just made little gingerbread houses to place on my garland. It was nothing fancy at all. I just cut the shape of the house and drew on the details. That's it. It turned out adorable. You can go as intricate or simple as you want. Make a 3D house or cut out the windows. It's a no fuss, anything goes type of DIY.

Kraft Bag Stars

Paper bags are pretty inexpensive. I've made a total of six and still have plenty leftover. It takes about 12 bags total to make a complete circle. Beyond that this again is where your creativity gets to shine. Just grab your scissors and as me and my mom say get snip happy. There's really no rhyme or reason to it!

Dried Fruit

Ohhh I adore dried oranges! They are so gorgeous when they come out and make whatever they're added to look like a million dollars. On accident I bought Grapefruit and Caracara oranges. Guess want that mistake was perfection y'all. The colors are so beautiful. Recently, I saw someone do dried whole limes. They look so awesome I'll link them here! Seriously I might have to try it this year. So, I'm going to link you to the tutorial I used.

Put a Bow on it

Have you ever seen the show Portlandia? Well, there's a skit about a shop where they put on bird on every dang thing! It cracks me up. And I'm going to steal their line...Put a bow on it! Any hall that is un-decked...put a bow on it. Got picture frame that ain't jolly...PUT A BOW ON IT. The dog...that's right! Put on a bow on them! My dog might try to fight me but I'm going to do it. But seriously it's such a small easy touch to use ribbon or premade bows to make non seasonal object charming. This year I'm really into the velvet bow trend. Tied around my bronze candle sticks.... please!? I'm going to feel so fancy.

Window/ Mirror Scapes

Grab white marker meant for glass and get ready to be the Michelangelo of Christmas. I had a blast creating my perfect idea of a snowy Christmas Street on my mirrors behind my dining table. You can draw anything, towns, ornaments, wreaths, whatever your heart desires. It's doesn't have to be perfect that is where the charm comes from! If you don't love it wipe it off and try again. I wish I had a big bay window cause you could create a beautiful scene on those babies.

Christmas Card Archway

When my grandmother passed, my mom didn't have the want to decorate for Christmas. It was such a heart-breaking thing to see. The joy of Christmas and decorating seemed to be gone. I took it upon myself to take that burden away an create her a Christmas. So, I decorated the house. She always says was like a scene in elf. One of my absolute favorite things I did was use Christmas cards from seasons passed and now to create a arch around the door frame. It was so heartwarming to see the cards displayed and old notes from loved ones. This year I plan on recreating that in my home. But this year I'll add some twinkle lights and garland to make it shine. For a fun twist you could do it with special pictures from this year, drawings from the kids, or just things that fill you with joy.

Christmas is one of the most amazing seasons to decorate for. It's a time that can call for extreme opulence or subdue rustic charm. No matter what your preference is, remember the charm comes from you taking your time to pour love and care into the details of your home. It's not a time for perfection, or stress. It's a time to truly be thankful we have the ability to create and decorate for Christmas at all. In this day and age, we're blessed we get to fuss over the holidays. So, give your thanks and relax a bit. It's time for holly jolly blessings. I can't wait to see what you create this year.
